A blog is basically a personal, informal, or written commentary posted on the Internet, usually consisting of substantive, occasionally personalized post-date journal-style text articles. Posts are usually displayed in chronological order, with the latest post appearing at the top of the page, followed by older posts. In many cases, the blog offers some sort of subscription service in which the reader may sign up to receive a predetermined number of articles in a specific category or topic. Blogs also can be created free of charge. In this case, the content is hosted on a particular web server and any reader is entitled to access this material for a specified period of time.
A blog is used as a tool to communicate with a targeted audience. Most blogging happens in the public arena, through blogs and websites. Blogs can play a role in influencing and educating an audience, as well as providing an interactive forum for audiences and authors. It is important for a blogger to remember that a blog is more than just a personal expression and that it is intended to be seen as a commercial vehicle by the target audience. In order to reach that audience, a blogger needs to think carefully about what they will be writing about and how they will convey those ideas and opinions to the intended audience.
There are several different ways for a blogger to earn money through blogging. In some cases, blogging is used simply as an online journal. In such cases, the blog itself becomes the primary means of communication between writer and audience. Bloggers may choose to focus on one particular topic or they may write about many different topics related to a particular industry. Some bloggers may also use their blogs to promote business ventures, products, or services.
In some instances, blogging is used as a source of content for news or other media releases. In this case, the blogger would post news stories or other reports related to their industry and then link these reports back to their blog posts. The hope is that someone reading the news post will want to visit the blog to learn more. In this way, blogging is used in much the same way that newspapers and television news stations used to publish reports in reverse chronological order. Back in the old days, these media outlets published reports first in the morning, and then in the afternoon, and so on.
Some bloggers create several blogs with different focus and point them to a single blog post. This is often referred to as “Digg dot com” style blogging. In other cases, blogs are created to provide a link to a particular site or to a specific service. For example, a blog could be created to provide information about the best times to book at a particular airport or hotel. A blogger may choose to focus on one particular venue or choose to write about a wide variety of different places.
Many bloggers choose to blog for profit, either by providing commercial information or advertising revenue on their blogs. Commercial blogs are not allowed to express any personal opinion in any way or to give recommendations for products or services. These blogs must have some type of business purpose, such as earning money for services rendered or to promote a product or service. Blogs can be run for free from the home, but most bloggers choose to make money by creating commercial blogs that they can then sell to others or to people who might be interested in their individual or business expertise.
