Short Trips and Travel Adventures
Travel is the transfer of individuals between different, often very far distant geographical locations. Travel can occur by foot, by car, plane, train, bus, boat or any other mode of transport, with luggage or no luggage, and is either one-way or round trip. Some forms of travel are commercial and others are not. There are also tours and cruises. Most people travel to work, visit friends and family, or attend or leave a university, college or other learning institution.
Traveling by public means involves traveling by road, train or air to get from point A to point B. Common modes of travel include trains, buses, taxis and air-conditioned intercity buses. Trains are the most commonly traveled mode of travel throughout the United States. Taxis, which are often called cabs, are used to take individuals from their homes to their workplaces. Horseback riding is also a popular form of travel.
When an individual traveling for a short vacation or trip, one place to travel is referred to as a one-place trip. Such trips usually happen within a single state or city, such as flying to Las Vegas or flying to Boston. Within such a trip, there is typically only one venue for shopping, dining, lodging, sightseeing or other activities. One place trips are not always meant to be long-term vacations. They can begin quickly and then end quickly as well.
Short term travel for an extended period of time is known as tourism. The tourism industry is the most valuable industry in the United States, contributing more than $60 billion dollars in revenue annually. In order to have a successful tourism business, it is important to understand the market, target markets, competition and many other factors. The tourism industry is a large and diverse market with many different sub-sectors. The industry is currently experiencing rapid growth in the U.S.A. and Canada.
One of the most interesting aspects of the short vacation is the mix between old and new cultures. Old world travel experiences provide the opportunity for people to travel to cultural hotspots and observe a heritage that may not be readily apparent in today’s world. For example, many European travelers experience the beauty of the architecture and historical sights of Paris, but may not have the chance to see the same history played out in another part of Europe. Conversely, a visit to Asia and an exploration of the new cultures of Japan, China, India or Malaysia provides the opportunity for people to learn about the rich history of these new cultures.
One of the most enjoyable parts of a travel experience is experiencing new cultures. When considering a short vacation or travel, it is important to consider what the travel attraction will offer in terms of culture. While there is no universal ‘best’ travel destination, there are some destinations that tend to appeal more to people than others. In addition to travel destinations, one can also tailor travel to suit an individual’s interests. Exploring foreign lands can allow an individual to discover hidden treasures or to spend time in peaceful, yet exciting towns.
